How to Make Silk Wraps and Gel Nails

For most women, having well-manicured fingernails is a must. However, some of them, no matter how they try, cannot achieve the perfect nail they have always aspired. Silk wraps and gel overlays offer popular alternatives to give you natural beautiful looking nails. But what is a silk wrap? A silk wrap is a silk material that’s applied over a crack on your nails. You use silk wraps by sticking it using a little bit of glue. Silk wraps can also be used in nail tips, but is would not be as tough as using acrylic or a gel. Here is how you can make silk wraps and gel nails for better-looking nails.

Step #1: Use silk wrap according to your nail size.

Cut a piece of silk wrap to the exact shape of your nails and apply it using a thin coat of glue. Resin glue or the thicker glue should follow. This will give your nails additional strength. To dry up the resin, an activator should be brushed or sprayed onto your nails. Once the procedure is complete, the nail technician will apply the nail polish color of your choice or just make the simple French manicure.

Step #2: Use gels.Make Silk Wraps and Gel Nails

To give you strong and glossy nails, you can combine polymer and monomer gels. After the application, the application should be dried by using a UV light. If you want to have longer nails, tips should be trimmed to the desired length that you want before the gel overlay process begins. There are some salons that offer an activator or a process that dries the gel simply by dipping your fingers into water.

Step #3: Use silk wraps properly.

Since silk wraps produce a thinner cover for nails, it is less prone to breaking than overlay gels. If your hands are frequently immersed in water, silk wraps are much more likely to separate than gel overlays but silk wraps are less likely to cause any type of fungal infection from separation. Since silk wraps are not as strong as gel overlays, most technician do not recommend the use of silk wraps in tips. A silk wrap is a good alternative for natural nails when only one nails need to be repaired.

Step #4: Appreciate the uses of gel overlays.

The best thing about gel overlays is that it produces a clear, glossy, and non porous surface to your nails that is more flexible than acrylics and less flexible than silk wraps. Most nail technicians offer a French manicure that is made using pink gel for the nail bed and white gel for the tips. Gel overlays are more prone to lifting than silk wraps. You run the risk of acquiring a fungal infection if lifting will occur.

Silk nail wraps and gel overlays need a commitment of time and money. Once the first procedure has started, you need to go back for another appointment to your nail technician every other week to get fill-ins done, depending on how fast your nail grows. Regular maintenance should be followed because putting it off is the primary cause of both silk wraps and gel overlays lifting from the natural nail bed.
